The world of design build is a place in which I wake up everyday filled with both enthusiasm and frustration. The enthusiasm is the easy part: a love for what I do and the rewards of working with my partners and coworkers. I find it inspiring to see our endeavors come to fruition, to work with the talent that I have the privilege of knowing, and to be involved in my personal mission to eliminate the challenges of our industry, making this job absolutely fantastic.
Then, of course, there’s the frustration. The misaligned side of the industry that continues to challenge everyone involved. I suppose our industry is not unlike most technically oriented industries—too much information coupled with not enough information, paired with incorrect or misleading information.
It never ceases to amaze me when I hear about the types of information and so-called guidance that some of our current clients have received. Couple that with everything from building trends to building codes, to finance, to managing many different subcontractors—the list can be almost endless. This is the source of my frustration—the ever-present battle to bring the right information, talent, and approach to the proverbial table to ensure people achieve their goals.
This is why we have created Design+Build Magazine. A quarterly publication that will shed light and insight on our industry by featuring the foremost of our industry’s technologies, the companies that continue to raise the bar, and the people who shine as the best and brightest.
Please enjoy this inaugural issue of Design+Build Magazine. I hope you enjoy it as much as we have in creating it.
Thank you.
